- ½ cup water
- 1 cup softened butter
- Four egg yolks
- One teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Four egg whites
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- ½ cup butter
- Three egg yolks, beaten
- ½ teaspoon shortening
- 1 ounce German sweet chocolates
- 2 cups white sugar
- 2 ½ cups cake flour
- One teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
- 1-ounce semisweet chocolate

- Start by preheating the oven to 175 degrees C (350 degrees F). Grease and flour a 3-9 inch round pans and sift baking soda, flour, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate small pan, meltwater and 4 ounces of chocolate. Remove from heat and allow cooling.
- Cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar until the texture are light and fluffy. Incorporate four egg yolks one at a time and continue beating. Blend the chocolate mixture and vanilla. Add the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk while continuously mixing until all the ingredients are well-incorporated.
- Beat egg whites until soft peaks form in a metal mixing bowl. Then, fold 1/3 of the egg white into the batter. Then, quickly fold the remaining egg whites.
- Pour the mixture into the 3-9 inch pans and bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Tip: You’ll know that it’s ready when there’s when a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Take out of the oven and allow cooling on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
To make filling: Except the chocolate and shortening, combine the remaining ingredients in a saucepan and cook over lower heat. Spread between the layers and on top of the cake.
In a separate pan, melt shortening and chocolate. Remove from heat and drizzle all over the cake.
